Crystal Taylor, an information expertise (IT) proficient at the Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC), acknowledged as an “Expert All Star” by the Ladies of Color (WOC) STEM (Science, Specialization, Engineering and Mathematics) Journal had gone. According to the WOC STEM Web site, “Expertize All-Stars” are professional women of color who manifest excellence in the office and within their communities. Taylor may be honored through the Ladies of Color STEM Convention in October 2021.
Ms Nadia Tepper, Government Director of SERMC mentioned, “I have seen for the first time the respect and appreciation given to Ms Taylor by her friends and superiors. She has earned a respectable stature through servant management and technical competence, and selflessly commits herself to strategic initiatives that elevate the profile of SERMC and make a difference in the lives of others. ”
As SERMC’s STEM outreach coordinator, Taylor developed a nationally accepted STEM outreach program through the SeaPerch program.
SeaPerch is a collaborative effort between the Workplace of Naval Analysis and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the Center to help high school college students learn about robotics and STEM by building and testing underwater remotely operated automobiles (ROVs). Taylor founded the annual regional seaperch contests in Northeast Florida in 2014 and leads a group of volunteers from SERMC who help 4 native seaperch groups. SERMC’s STEM outreach program covers 35 schools and helps more than 500 students every year. SERMC-sponsored SeaPerch groups annually compete and position within SeaPerch Nationwide Problem.
Most students have engaged in distance learning of some sort during the pandemic, and Taylor acknowledges that outreach programs have become more necessary, especially for lecturers looking for stimulating ways to promote their curriculum. and interacting with students in important and impactful ways.
Taylor was able to make the most of her IT expertise by coordinating and conducting multiple face-to-face digital classes with local schools, as well as digital “coach’s practice” programs.
Mayport Coastal Sciences Center faculty coach William Hudson, whose team placed first in final, worldwide competitions, said, “As teachers, we are always looking for moments of discovery from our students. Taylor was also noted for excellence in cyber security when he was selected for an extremely aggressive position in the Navy Cyber Info Expertise Transformation Program (CITEP). She was one of only seven nominees from the entire division of the Navy in 2019.
CITEP provides a unique option for DoD and private sector organizations to share best practices, gain a greater understanding of the challenges and challenges of operating cross-sector data technology. And be allies to deal with these challenges.
